Technical index:
1. The relation between dispersion and refractive index?

The dispersion coefficient is an important index to measure the imaging quality of lens, usually expressed by abbe number, so the dispersion coefficient is also called abbe number.

The higher the dispersion coefficient (Abbe number) is, the less obvious the dispersion is, and the better the imaging quality of the lens is. The smaller the dispersion coefficient (Abbe number) is, the more obvious the dispersion is, and the worse the image quality of the lens is. The refractive instrument with precision no less than 3×10ˉ4 could be used to determine the ˉ color resolution of optical lens. The value is between 32 and 60. The higher the Abbe number is, the less distortion is caused by the incident visible light.

The ratio of the sine of the transmitted light Angle to the Angle of incident light, which is characteristic of the medium.

Its value varies slightly due to the different measuring base wavelength and environment. For different refractive index lenses with the same design thickness and refraction, the refractive index is inversely proportional to the lens thickness and transmittance, and its value is generally between 1.49 and 1.74.

In general, the dispersion coefficient (Abbe number) is inversely proportional to the refractive index of the lens, that is, the larger the refractive index is, the smaller the dispersion coefficient (Abbe number) is and the more obvious the dispersion is.
